Her paintings explore island life, wildlife and the sea—finding expressive beauty in familiar people, places and everyday moments.
Born in Bulgaria and based in The Bahamas, Katerina Kovatcheva is a multidisciplinary artist, designer and educator whose creative journey spans continents, cultures and mediums. She holds a Master's degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia and has worked in fashion design, illustration, portraiture, theatrical and hospitality design, and arts education.
Her work draws upon the natural world, the movement of light, and the expressive possibilities of the human spirit. In watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel and collage, she finds different languages for the same enduring curiosity: the extraordinary within the ordinary.
“I find it my passion to observe things and always find something extraordinary within the very ordinary.”
Katerina has exhibited internationally and has served as The Bahamas representative of the International Watercolor Society. Her commitment to art extends into the classroom, where she has nurtured generations of young artists.
